Sarah is coming out of hibernation. After several years being active in the DC area music scene in the 2010s, she mostly dropped out after having kids. But then a funny thing happened: those kids challenged her, opened feelings she didn't know she had, and before she knew it, songs were pouring out of her. Songs about motherhood, in all its joy, pain, frustration, humor, anxiety, and hope. From the terror, trauma, and triumph of childbirth itself, to the often isolating transformation of identity, to the discovery of long-dormant triggers and the elusiveness of keeping one's cool, to the trials of raising kind, loving, resilient children in difficult times. They begged to be shared with the world, to get that delicious full band treatment, to be recorded. Ranging from heartrending guitar ballads to powerful piano anthems, and some lighthearted fun in between, Mother captures the ups and downs of Sarah's journey, and invites you to come along.

Featuring Sarah on vocals, piano, and acoustic guitar, Manny Arciniega on drums and percussion, Gary Prince on electric guitar, and Ian Riggs on bass. Recorded, mixed, and mastered by Don Godwin at Tonal Park.

In addition to performing her own music, Sarah has supported other DC-area musicians as a vocalist and multi-instrumentalist. She also has extensive experience singing in and arranging for a cappella groups, and accompanying and directing music for musical theater productions.

"Come walk with me," beckons the title track of Sarah Gilberg's debut album, Other People's Secrets (2018), and the invitation lingers throughout, as she leads the listener through quiet reflections on new love, old love, strength, and healing. Steeped in the traditions of folk and American standards, Sarah writes songs featuring clear, melodic vocal lines and lyrics that are at once both simple and sophisticated, both deeply personal and relatable. Originally composed for solo performance with piano or acoustic guitar, these songs come to life with a new warmth and lushness on this studio recording with the support of jazz musicians Gary Prince on electric guitar, Brian Cruse on acoustic bass, and Tim Cohen on percussion.
